Who are we?
Expat Prep is about understanding and responding effectively to the current authoritarian moment in the United States, as it’s on the verge of Whatever Giant Thing AI Is Going To Be.
I write from the viewpoint of the overeducated lower-upper class. There is some rather old money left, but not very much.
There are some beautiful old nautical charts and more nice sterling silver than I can really use. Our family first arrived in British North America in 1635.
The blucher moccasins are well-worn and the popped collars are sometimes frayed. The savings rate is high. The asset allocation is probably pretty boring.
I’m a fourth-generation Ivy Leaguer, a recovering lawyer with professional expertise in trusts and estates and personal finance. Midwestern-located. Former moderate Republican, unsure of what that means any longer. Constitutionalist. Certified Financial Planner. Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy.
Expat Prep is experiencing growth and success because of our engaged readers and generous paid supporters.
As a result, I am able to donate ten percent of the site’s net income to date (and going forward) to Freedom House, the leading nonpartisan organization defending democracy and civil society worldwide.
I’m very grateful to readers for catalyzing this tangible way to jointly advance the values we share.
This is staying anonymous for now, because that may be wiser as the United States becomes more authoritarian.
Visibly antagonizing the Regime doesn’t do nice things to one’s travel permissions. Which are more important than ever.
Anonymity also enables greater candor, and reinforces that the viewpoints expressed herein are not the views of my employer.
Neither, of course, are the viewpoints tax, legal, investment, financial, or accounting advice. Do not rely on the discussion contained herein for important decisions or actions for your specific personal situation without advance consultation with your own legal, financial, and accounting advisors.
